Goh Betoch Bank SC Profile
About Goh Betoch Bank
Goh Betoch Bank, Ethiopia's
inaugural private mortgage bank, was founded by a consortium of 11
forward-thinking individuals including seasoned bankers, investors, and
academics. Their shared vision was fueled by a profound commitment to
addressing the nation's pressing housing challenges. The bank's inception was
driven by a recognition of the country's substantial housing backlog,
exacerbated by factors such as soaring construction costs, persistent
inflation, and inadequate housing financing schemes. Backed by 6,657
shareholders who collectively subscribed to Birr 1,056 million, with Birr 521.5
million in paid-up capital, Goh Betoch Bank received its regulatory green light
from the National Bank of Ethiopia on July 28, 2021, following a meticulous
three-year establishment process.
Officially commencing operations on
October 25, 2021, Goh Betoch Bank sets its sights on catering to a diverse
range of income groups, aiming to make the dream of homeownership a reality for
all Ethiopians. With a keen focus on providing mortgage loans, the bank targets
lower, middle, and high-income segments of society, empowering individuals to
secure their own homes. Furthermore, Goh Betoch Bank pledges to implement
initiatives aimed at increasing the availability of affordable housing, thereby
ensuring that even low- and middle-income groups have access to both rental and
ownership opportunities.
Driven by a profound sense of
purpose, Goh Betoch Bank is committed to closing the housing financing gap
prevalent in Ethiopia's banking landscape. With a mission to provide long-term
housing finance solutions, the bank aims to facilitate property purchase,
construction, expansion, and renovation endeavors. By offering accessible
financial services, particularly mortgage financing, Goh Betoch Bank endeavors
to unlock the transformative power of homeownership, enabling individuals to
plan for a brighter future while contributing to the prosperity of future
generations.
